PEOPLE OF IRON
& THE MOUNTAIN PLATEAU
When we were searching for a blacksmith museum location, we were waiting and waiting for the VILLAGE to see, you know, few houses, a church, village square. But this is an extraordinary village. It is difficult to say where exactly is because it is all over the remote mountain plateau. The village is that long that you would walk for 3 hours (don't worry, we will drive you around 🙂 ) to get from the first house to the last one! What is even more surprising, because the village only has around 230 houses with 275 inhabitants.
Let's get to the point. Our first stop at the trip will actually be a blacksmith museum. You will get to know why this village was full of smiths, see a collection of some machines and tools, etc and see a true smith doing his work. You can even try to forge your own piece of iron if wanted!
A true smith deserves a plate of delicious food. In the restaurant, where local cuisine ingredients are taken directly from gardens and nearby meadows on 900m above sea level, you will feel this genuinely untouched nature and the connection of locals with it. »Dober tek«, as Slovenes say when they eat.
After lunch, we are leaving the Lokovec plateau and have a drive with amazing scenery. We will discover a Mussolini's head in the mountain chain, drive through a rocky tunnel, stop to see a waterfall with tiny clear-water pond and finally get to the old stone bridge, where (as the last part of our trip) you will have time to relax, swim and have a drink.
